Elbow Grease for the Win from Jo's Country Junction

I had to get my meds refilled so Gannon and I went to do that and other errands the other day.  In full disclosure:  “Errands” is a code word meaning “stop at the thrift store”.

We shopped and I came across this table.  It was $5.  There were no chairs-I already had the ones in the picture.  Just the table.  As you can see, it was looking pretty tough on the top.  There was paint, tape, goo and I think maybe fingernail polish in one spot…still $5 was cheap.

This was the worst spot…

As you all might remember ...

Goodwill Find: Old Sewing Stand from Jo's Country Junction

I think this is going to be a fun blog post.  I know I sure had fun exploring.  Here’s the story:

I already told you that on Sunday I went to get my Covid shot.  I already told you that when I was in town I stopped at Goodwill.  I already told you that I found this…

It is an old sewing basket/stand.  I saw it and I have several of these already.  I didn’t need another.  I don’t even know if I have a place for one.  Ah…but what’s a girl to do ...

Thrifting for Fabric from Jo's Country Junction

It’s no secret I am a big-time thrifter.  I haven’t been thrifting nearly as much since Covid hit back in 2020.  In general, I am just not in town as much so that means fewer stops.  That means fewer opportunities to find goodies.

Then for a while, all of the fabric that was coming into the thrift store was being snagged by local ladies who were making masks then volunteering at the store to help with making sure those who entered wore masks.  That meant there was never cotton quilting fabric to be found.

I still looked when ...

Vintage Sale… from Jo's Country Junction

Remember back in April I was at the vintage sale when Kelli called me and told me her water broke.  Well, I never showed you the goodies I got or told you about the sale so here, one month later, (Yep the boys are a month old as of today) I’m here to tell you about the sale.

I bought this magazine rack.

My idea is to keep my cross stitch projects in there like this…

I’m a sucker for old vintage… wooden boxes.  This was an old box that once some type of cigar box.  Someone saved ...

Thrift Store Finds from Jo's Country Junction

Over the weekend I went to town.  Rosie needed dog food.  She is supposed to be on medicated dog food but I ordered it two weeks ago and the food is on backorder.  I called and inquired.  No luck.  No expected delivery time…nothing.  I was told that I could drive and get some 50 minutes away but I’ve been wanting to try it out and see if she actually NEEDS it.

The food was supposed to prevent accidents but I’m not positive that all of that wasn’t a puppy thing…I figured if I was going ...

A Busy Week with the Kramers from Jo's Country Junction

We’ve had a busy week around here.  You might remember that I had my grandkids over the weekend.  Monday rolled around and I was back to childcare…or so I thought.  My childcare kiddos were sick so the parents kept them home.  Gannon and Georgia were still here on Monday but no extra kids.

Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday the kiddos were still sick so I sewed my days away all the while worrying about this guy.

Kayla’s boy Jasper landed himself back in the hospital.  He was having breathing issues.

This picture makes it look like he didn ...

Hooray a Thrift Store Day!! from Jo's Country Junction

On Wednesday I snuck away and went to get a blood draw.  I have a doctor’s appointment coming up and I like to have the blood work done in advance.  So Wednesday was my day to do that.  Kalissa watched the childcare kids for the last half an hour and I was able to go.

Being I was in town I made the decision to stop at the thrift store and at Walmart.  I don’t hate not going to town.  I love staying home for the most part but…it sure was nice to actually look in the ...

The Ironing Station…. from Jo's Country Junction

I knew Kayla was coming…I knew Karl would be here.  I thought the dresser that is destined to be my ironing station would go up the stairs so I quickly painted it and tried to have it ready so when the stars aligned, the kids would help me get it upstairs.

If you remember, it looked like this…

…and my illustration for it was this…

Here it is painted with no top yet.

Thankfully with a little pushing, prodding, and heavy lifting, it went up the stairs.

This is my previous ironing station…
Ick.

Karl and I cut a ...

The Stars Aligned from Jo's Country Junction

Do you ever have one of those days that the stars seem to align and magically many good things happened all at once.  That was my Thursday.

I’m still on my diet.  I’m doing better with it this time around.  I think previous times when I’ve done it I’m been doing childcare at the same time.  Often I just didn’t eat because it was so much work to figure out what I could eat.  With the childcare kids not here, I’m taking a little bit better care of myself.

Well I was running low ...

Thrifty Finds from Jo's Country Junction

I was at the thrift store and rummaging around the craft section…no fabric on this day but nostalgia had me buying this.

See the saying on the bottom, “God Bless our Home”?  Well I had the kit for that when I was in my teens.  I stitched it and took it to the fair and got a blue ribbon.  Stitching this is what taught me to do French knots.

I kept it for years and years and then ended up passing it on to Kayla when we moved to the house in town where we live now.

Well this ...

Adventures in Thrifting from Jo's Country Junction

I was thrifting…

I was happy when the thrift store turned over to fall clothing.  Although I’m not hunting for men’s 100% cotton shirts, I do still take a look because I’m not-not hunting either.  I happen to find this orange one.  I’m a cheap skate and won’t pay more than $2 for a shirt so when I find one in a hard to find color, I snap it up!

If you’re a long time reader you know I’ve been collecting shirts for Bonnie Hunter’s Oregon or Bust quilt only I’m ...

Thrift Store Finds from Jo's Country Junction

You might remember that last week on Monday I went to Lacrosse to have a needle biopsy done.  Kelli was doing childcare for me while I went to have that done so I wanted to get back as soon as possible.  On the way home Kelli called and said, “Mom, I’m fine here.  If you don’t stop at the thrift store, I’m going to be mad at you.”

Well I decided I’d stop but try hard to make it a quick stop.  I hit up the toy section and the craft section but just did a ...

Thrift Store Happiness from Jo's Country Junction

I’ve been on such a roll making quilts.  I’ve had so much fun.  One would think I would have made a dent in fabric but to be honest, I don’t know that I have.

I did take a dive off of my fabric diet…I was at an actual quilt shop and bought fabric but I’ll save that story for next week.  This story is an even better story as this fabric all came from the thrift store…and you all know my thrift stores…the prices are great.

I got all of this and little ...

Thrifty Fabric from Jo's Country Junction

Last week as I traveled to Lacrosse, I stopped at the thrift store every single day I could.  Some people might think that’s crazy but it isn’t.  There is a HUGE turn around at my favorite thrift store and I see different things for sale everytime I go.  That’s why I love it.

On Monday I went and bought NOTHING.  That is strange…but it happens from time to time.  Here’s my thoughts on that.  In was Columbus Day here in the USA and lots of kids had no school.  So, more people were in the ...
